Sunset is one of the most popular events on Chapman’s Peak Drive and traditionally the Day Pass on #Chappies allowed users to stay until sunset. Chappies will now be getting set times for the Day Pass which remains free to the public and will continue to operate in the same format, except for the designated times of use. New times effective from 1 December 2015.
The Chappies Day Pass or Picnic Voucher is valid for free use of designated picnic areas, viewing spots and mountain trails, before the Day Pass Control Point, during the following hours:
Summer (Oct – Mar): 06:00 – 20:00
Winter (Apr – Sep): 07:00 – 18:30
The Day Pass is valid from the Hout Bay entrance only and can be used up to the Day Pass Control Point… you know those friendly guys that stamp your ticket?
It seems pretty obvious to us, but please keep your Day Pass as proof of entry and then when you leave, return it to the toll collector before the closing time noted above. If you don’t have your Day Pass, we think you have come from Noordhoek and we will charge you as we have no proof no matter what story you tell us, or which great-aunty is visiting from overseas!
So granny or not, if you don’t show us your day pass you will have to pay the full tariff! Keep it, care for it and then enjoy it! Take Photos (of nature, birds, wildlife, scenery and sunsets), bring binoculars for better wildlife spotting, take a hike or have a picnic. #Chappies for Free!
A few terms and conditions apply:
- Fixed Day Pass hours
- Valid first 2.7km past the toll plaza building to Day Pass Control Point.
- Retain Day Pass ticket for return journey.
